  1. I think the lights are very effective. You could make a whole study of that. I assume you did it without moving your camera. As a follow-up, you could photograph 1 window at different times, too. See what that person is up to at different times of day. Where else do you see fairly random changes over time like that? Maybe it would be similar to take shots of a dining hall at different points during a meal--which tables fill up or empty?
I don't get much out of the computer time.... It is pretty bland and not very substantive, although it is nice that it addresses a new perspective view on time--modern time.
Is that one bulletin board over time? I'm not sure how this shows time either.
I really like the yellow lights. That's funny. They would be a good dyptich with the internet time. Times inbetween. Times where we're forced to wait. Times that always seem to go by slower. Very nice.

  2. Rachel:
I am with Ethan, the lights are great because they work effectively on two levels - the idea and the visual affect. Form and content have a nice thing going here, and I agree that this could constitute a whole study with interesting and compelling variations. Look at Harry Callahan's multiple exposures - they remind me a little of your series.
And the yellow lights series I connect with - again because there is an interesting and effective combination/treatment of form (color and light) and content (idea: yellow light as transient and indicating caution, only present for short time) - which would begin to suggest further coincidence of color and motion and time with a traffic light - red light and brakelights, and perhaps something you could work with along with green light? Look at Jan Groover's early studies of traffic and trucks - in triptych form.

  3. For some reason I cannot get the yellow light image to expand on my computer screen, so unfortunately I can't look at it.

I really like the idea of the dorm lights too. think you definitely could expand upon this more...maybe even more images like this....or a different location with the same process?

  4. I'm drawn to the bulletin board photos. Like Nick's idea of depicting this time we're all sharing - college, I think your bulletin boards speak to something else we all share - the myriad of events, appointments, info sessions, taking place seemingly all at the same time - evoking the sense that all these bulletins fill up more time than there actually is. Also, a bulletin board is a record of these events over time - posters and flyers get taped over old ones and the old ones never get taken down. This is a cluttered collection of all that has gone on and will happen here.

  5. I think that your ideas are very strong, and my favorite is definitely the lights one. I think, (as others have said) that you could do the entire project on this- what about different buildings? what about photographing from inside (still seeing the lights but giving yourself as photographer more of a voyeur perspective)? what about taking the photos earlier in the evening (so that lights are visible but so is more color- of dorms, sky, etc) ? I think the computer time image is the weakest, and because the other ideas are so strong, I would definitely try to explore them more deeply rather than develop this one.

  6. I really like the dorm pictures. I think they might do well with time stamps or something to give us a sense of what times each of them are taken. Some more images could be good too. I like the street light images too. I couldn't make it bigger, so I can't say much about it. The computer and bulletin boards are the weakest for me. I think the computer looks just like a screen shot, and is not super interesting. The bulletin boards provide a little more, but I think they could be better. I can see where you are going, and I like it, but I want more.

  7. I really love your window shot - maybe you can expand on it by starting or ending at a time when there's a greater difference in lights?
I also really like your traffic yellow lights images. I think that the images stand strongly independent of this project. To expand on this idea, maybe try more vantage points of a yellow light (maybe a close up image as well).
I think your internet time presents a really interesting new dimension of time. Maybe try more variations on this, because the images posted aren't as compelling to me.
